I absolutely this time of year. July is one of my favourite months of summer because of all the neat things going on here and around the Fraser Valley, like the Berry Beat Festival.

It happens each and every year, right after Canada Day, around July 5th or 6th. All the local farmers, entertainers, crafters and shop owners get together in the old down town Abbotsford area and put on a large street festival with good food, music and fun and entertainment for everyone. It’s so much fun.

This year we took just Trace as JJ went for a sleep-over with his Nana and Papa. It was kinda nice just having Trace to ourselves as we wandered around.

Trace had a blast! He went rock climbing for the first time. He didn’t get too far but it was very cool to see him wanting to try new things even though he was a little scared. He kinda got a bit down on himself, which bugs me. He is so hard on himself but I told him how great he did.

We stopped so Trace could get his face painted. Funny to think two years ago he never would have let people touch his face due to his sensory issues. Now he takes a deep breath and lets himself enjoy being a kid.

All in all we had a great day at the Berry Beat and enjoyed some good smokies, some family-fun and I can’t wait for next year!
