It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for since Christmas morning.  Team Canada announced just who exactly is going to represent us in Sochi for 2014 and the list of talent did not disappoint as the news of Canada’s Men’s ice hockey Olympic team was announced, and surprisingly BC represents.

It was 2010 when I sat with my wife in our living room, watching as our boys skated up and down the ice to steal the Gold.  And this year I hope won’t be any different, but we won’t know until the puck drops on the ice.  The anticipation for another medal we can bring home I know affects us all.

Representing Team Canada

Forwards: Jamie Benn, Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby (of course), Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Sharp, Matt Duchene, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash, John Tavares, Corey Perry, Steve Stamkos and Jonathan Toews.

Defence: Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Alex Pietrangelo, PK Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Dan Hamhuis (Canucks) Shea Weber and Jay Bouwmeester.

Goalies: Roberto Luongo (Canucks), Carey Price, Mike Smith

There is a ton of controversy of course over who made the team and who didn’t. But Steve Yzerman put it best when he said: “Every Canadian is going to have an opinion on who should have made the team, I have an opinion on who should make the team and the talent and none of us are wrong.”

He’s right. Canada has enough talent to make up three teams of Olympic Hockey Champions.  What is nice to see is that BC is represented with five players on the team this year, showing just how strong hockey in British Columbia still is. I’m also of course rooting for Luongo and Hamhuis, being we are huge Canuck fans in our house. Super happy those boys made it.  I will also be keeping my eyes peeled for the Sedin’s on team Sweden along with Edler to see how they do. The competition is going to fierce as the talent is amazing across the board.

My Opinion

It’s outrageous that Martin St. Louis from Tampa Bay did not make the team but Chris Kunitz (Crosby’s) teammate did. Yeah okay. Rich Nash (concussion) and Stamkos (broken leg) made the team, so I guess we’re hoping they recover but honestly MSL should have replaced one of them.

Overall though it doesn’t matter. The talent as I said is there and I can’t wait for Sochi, not just for the men’s hockey, but the women’s as well. Go Canada Go!

What do you think of the Team Canada Roster?
