It’s Valentine’s Day! A day to celebrate love, being in love, hanging out with friends, family or your partner and having a good time. One of the things I love about Valentine’s is the fact it’s not just a holiday for lovers. If you have kids, like me, then you know that the holiday is also tons of fun for kids.
This year my oldest son Jake has a girlfriend for the first time on Valentine’s Day. He’s fourteen, and has been dating his gf Krista for about six months now. They are truly cute together, despite my grey hairs coming in watching as his heart grows for this amazing girl whom I adore. This year he wanted to get her something special. So with the help of mom we went out got her a few things and he gave them to her first thing in the morning.
My son’s gf doesn’t always sleep great. So he decided for Valentine’s to pick her up some dream catchers. He wanted to get her something to help capture her bad dreams and help her sleep more calmly at night (what a sweetie). He also got her a Big Hearts Lion (from Build A Bear) that is so adorably cute, along with a cute black and red trinket box which he filled with some crispy chocolate hearts and her favorite chocolate Reese Peanut Butter Cups.
Next is my youngest Trace. He had a party at school and couldn’t wait to do up Valentine’s for all his friends. We got his class list, and last week hit the dollar store to pick up some supplies. You don’t have to buy expensive Valentine’s for classmates. You can make your own, which normally we do. But this year we decided to pick up pre-made ones and they are truly adorable. Each card has a little joke inside for his friends to enjoy. We attached to the cards Valentine suckers which he hopes the kids will love.
I love that my kids are into Valentine’s Day. I love that it’s not just a sweetheart’s holiday anymore. Families celebrate the day everywhere, spending time together, doing crafts, baking treats and enjoying the day just to show how much they care. It’s what makes the holiday so special for me.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. I hope you have a great day. Hubby and I are gonna sit back and watch a movie with some popcorn tonight and cuddle. May seem like nothing special but for me it’s all about who you are with and not what you are doing. We hope you all enjoy your special day whether it’s with your kids or loved ones!
